Every session is about celebrating your story, whether that's welcoming your newborn, capturing your growing pregnancy bump, or freezing a special family moment in time.

I photograph families across Southern Tasmania, based just outside nipaluna/Hobart. From cozy newborn photography sessions in your home to maternity and family sessions among Tasmania’s breathtaking beaches, fields, and forests, I love creating timeless images full of heart.

With 13 years' experience as a photographer, a midwife, and a mum, I truly understand how precious (and fleeting) these stages of life are. Whether it’s a squishy newborn, a radiant pregnancy glow, or a wild and wonderful family session, my approach is always calm, friendly, and fun.

I totally get that having your photo taken can feel a little awkward — trust me, I’m right there with you (and my husband would definitely agree after being my photography guinea pig too many times!). My focus is to make your newborn, maternity, pregnancy, or family session feel easy, natural, and full of laughter — so we can capture images that feel genuinely you.

Hi! Im Rose, I am a newborn, family and maternity photographer working in Hobart and southern Tasmania.

As well as being a newborn photographer, I am also a midwife and a mother. I am incredibly lucky to love all of these things passionately and in fact, midwifery led me to photography. I cared for the incredible Jett Street (http://jettstreet.com/) during her pregnancy and after the birth of her baby Elsie, we stayed in touch. Jett very kindly offered to do a photo session for me after my first baby, Bill, was born…I mentioned that she’s incredible right? Those pictures rocked my world! I loved the colours and I loved the way she captured the tiny details and depicted exactly that moment in time. Anyways, my husband saw through my starry eyed girl crush and bought me a camera, I haven’t stopped snapping yet!

Now, my experience as a midwife gives me a unique perspective into photography and, I like to think, a few transferable skills. I have always loved being a part of this momentous chapter in a familys timeline and now I get to record it. Amazing! Getting that glimpse into a very private world, the one where you’re vulnerable and unsure and falling completely in love with each other is such a privilege. It is GENUINE emotion that you just can’t fake and thats what I want to capture. So you can keep it forever. And every time you look at those pictures you go back to that time when your boobs were sore, you hadn’t slept since the Tuesday before and the tiny thing you were cradling had blown your heart wide open, the time when EVERYTHING changed.

And no matter how uncomfortable having your picture taken makes you (and who LIKES having their picture taken?), I reckon I can still get you laughing somehow. If I can get a smile out of a woman in labour I must be a little bit funny right?!

It was someone else’s baby that got me started but my own growing family gave me the inspiration to carry on taking photographs. All of the clichés are WAAAAY too true - they really DO grow so fast, before can you blink your delicious little babe is a cranky toddler, then a mucky 4 year old, a 7 year old with gappy teeth and a school uniform….is a parent of their own tiny baby. Snaps on a cameraphone are wonderful (I take them too) but, for me, I really value beautiful photos that tell me a story. I print them, I frame them and I fill my home with those moments and that’s something I’d like to do for you too.

I am also acutely aware of the difficult balance between wanting to share your beautiful family with the world via social media but wanting to protect their privacy, too. I specialise in making lovely images of your children that you can share while still protecting their privacy - I’ll ensure you have a selection of images to share that don’t show their faces or any nudity.
